How to Polish Metal

Materials Needed:

  • Metal-specific polish (depends on type - see below)
  • Soft microfiber cloths (lint-free)
  • Rotary tool/buffer (for large surfaces)
  • Nylon brush (for textured metal)
  • Protective gloves

Steps:

  1. Identify Your Metal Type

    • Stainless Steel: Use dedicated stainless polish
    • Brass/Copper: Lemon juice + salt paste or commercial brass polish
    • Aluminum: Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish
    • Chrome: Blue Magic Chrome Polish
  2. Surface Preparation

    • Remove grease with isopropyl alcohol
    • Rinse with distilled water (prevents spotting)
    • Dry thoroughly
  3. Polishing Techniques

    • Apply polish in small sections
    • Rub in direction of grain for brushed metals
    • Use circular motions for mirror finishes
    • Remove residue with clean cloth

⚠️ Warning:
• Never mix polish types
• Avoid abrasive pads on soft metals (copper, gold)

Pro Tip: Finish stainless steel with baby oil to prevent fingerprints!


How to Polish Patent Leather

Materials Needed:

  • Damp microfiber cloth
  • Mild soap (Castile soap)
  • Patent leather conditioner (Saphir Mirror Gloss)
  • Plastic wrap (for deep shine)

Steps:

  1. Gentle Cleaning

    • Wipe with damp cloth + drop of soap
    • Immediately dry with separate microfiber
  2. Restoring Shine

    • Apply tiny amount of conditioner
    • Buff with dry cloth in straight motions
    • For extreme shine:
      1. Apply conditioner
      2. Wrap in plastic wrap for 1 hour
      3. Unwrap and rebuff
  3. Scuff Removal

    • Light scuffs: Rub with cotton ball dipped in milk
    • Deep scratches: Use specialized patent leather repair kit

⚠️ Never Use:
✗ Traditional leather polish
✗ Oil-based products
✗ Heat sources (fades finish)

Steps:
